I am Angela Rhodes, welcome to my new website! I play the flute in Paris, a cozy town located in the northeastern area of Texas .. not too far from Dallas or Texarkana.
I received my Master of Music Performance degree from Texas A&M-Commerce where I was principal flute of the wind ensemble and where I studied with Jocelyn Goranson. While at TAMU-C, I won the Music Department Concerto Competition and was selected for two positions in the Texas Flute Society's Convention Master Classes. As a student, I was awarded a Graduate Assistantship and, later, a Teaching Assistantship. I taught ear training, tutored music theory, and assisted with woodwind methods, music theory, and the flute studio.
I also hold my Bachelor of Music Education Degree from Southern Arkansas University where I was principal flute of the SAU Wind Ensemble and where I studied with Dr. John Goss. While I was at SAU I was also named runner-up for the National Alpha Chi Nolle Award and I won the woodwind division of the Northeast Arkansas Arts Foundation Concerto Competition. Prior to my time at SAU, I had the privilege of studying with Sheryl Goodnight from Mary Hardin Baylor University and Dr. Judy Hand from McNeese State University.
Between my SAU years and my TAMU-C years, I taught instrumental music in the Norphlet Public School System in Arkansas for five years and taught applied flute at Southern Arkansas University for four years. I played piccolo with the Pine Bluff Symphony Orchestra for seven years for the Texarkana Symphony Orchestra for three. I have also had the honor of teaching some very talented private students from this area. Please don't hesitate to contact me to learn more. - Thanks! |
